Life should be Simple {not Easy}

I sit here next to my husband’s hospital bed, hearing the sounds of medical devices hissing and chirping, watching the nurses roll in ultrasound machines and fill his veins with (much needed) pain medication…and I think back on that one word the Lord gave me at the beginning of the year: SIMPLICITY

I’m remembering 3 bad falls the kids had, one that required medical attention, the other that required dental attention. And I'm reminded of that one word the Lord gave me: SIMPLICITY

And I think about our first born, and the battle that has been this year (well the last 3 years really). The doctor visits, therapists (for him and us), the sleepless nights (some because he was keeping us up, and some because the Lord had me up).  And sometimes the only thing I had left to offer the Lord was every last tear drop until these ducts were spent and dry. And then there’s that word again: SIMPLICITY
Despite the hardships this year, we have SO much to be thankful for. SO MUCH!  I guess I just didn’t expect all this would come with a Word like, SIMPLICITY.

As I tap my tired fingers on these keys, this truth becomes evident: Life should be Simple, but it sure isn’t Easy.

We are meant to lead simple lives…ridding ourselves of all that entangles, the scriptures says. It’s just that sometimes, it’s not easy to untangle the tangles. And sometimes we can tangle ourselves up pretty good and tight.  Obviously, life happens. We didn’t cause the falls, or the illness, or the challenges that come with learning to parent a child with unique needs. But in the midst of it all, I know that God wants to untangle our intentions, desires, and affections for one purpose—>

a SIMPLICITY of the soul.

A soul with clean arteries connected straight to the heart of our Creator.
A soul that filters out the junk and drinks in the Truth.
A soul that isn’t held captive in the tangled web of self-reliance.

SIMPLICITY.

I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we said “yes” to simplicity.
But I’m grateful that He is willing to untangle our messy hearts so we can experience the SIMPLE PLEASURE of truly knowing Him.
